Q. | Is membership required to play at the center? |
A. | No. Non-members can play by paying a per-visit fee. Of course, you may want to consider a monthly or annual membership if you play more than a couple of times a week. Membership benefits include discounts on Group Classes, Training Camps, and equipment purchases.
|
Q. | Do I need to bring a friend with me to play? |
A. | No. You can come alone and play with others at the center. If there are open tables available, just ask someone sitting in the waiting area if they would like to play. We also have a challenge system (see Policies for details) so waiting players can challenge others in match play. |
Q. | Do I need to bring my own paddle and balls? |
A. | Yes. For unexpected situations, we have a couple of loaner paddles available. The balls marked with YY are reserved for use during classes, lessons and other events in the center. |
Q. | What type of shoes I should wear at the center? |
A. | The floor is a hardware laminate. Most non-marking sport shoes should work fine. We have a few loaner shoes for occasional use. |
Q. | I have been using an inexpensive sporting good store bought paddle. Do I need to upgrade it before coming to play? |
A. | No. You can play with you current paddle if you just want to come and have fun. However, if you are serious in advancing your skills, a professional level setup is a must. Fortunately, even professional level rackets (blades & rubber sheets) are quite reasonable in cost – from $50 to $150. Please ask if you need help choosing the right equipment for your needs. |
Q. | Do you sell table tennis equipment or supplies? |
A. | Yes. We have a fair selection of premade paddles, professional level blades and rubber sheets, balls and other supply in stock. Please inquire if interested. |
Q. | I think I play pretty good ping pong as I have been playing at work and at home for a long time. I want to develop into a competitive player, how can you help? |
A. | WTTC offers a variety of programs for players like you. These include group classes, training camps, competitive events – tournaments and league play, private lessons, and open play. We can provide specific recommendations based on your current skill level and your overall objectives. |
Q. | My son/daughter would like to learn table tennis. Do you have specific programs tailored for kids? |
A. | Yes. We have youth group classes weekday afternoons and early Saturday mornings. In the summer months (July/August), we host weekly Summer Camps for kids. For ultimate one-on-one learning, coach Yong offers private lessons to meet your specific needs. Over the years, Yong has developed a number of youth (most were completely new to the sport) into top players in the state. |
Q. | Do I need to play matches or can I just practice at the center? |
A. | Of course you can just practice. Many good players spend a fair amount of their training time on structured practices (drills). Please be aware that match challenges (see Policies for details) are in effect when players are waiting. |
Q. | My friend and I would like to play by ourselves for a long period time, is there certain time of the day that we could do that? |
A. | Generally speaking, you can find open tables and avoid match challenges during weekday afternoons (before 5:00 PM). |
Q. | What type of players play at WTTC? |
A. | In a given day, you can find some of top players of the state training and/or playing matches. You will also find many intermediate level players as well as beginners utilizing the facility. |
Q. | Can I come and just watch people play? |
A. | Yes. You are more than welcome to come and watch how this fast-pace sport is played by some of the high-level players. Just let the manager-in-charge know that is what you would like to do. |
Q. | What do I need to do the first time I come to play? |
A. | We require that a first time player read and sign either a Drop-in or Membership form. We also highly encourage players to review the Policies (posted on the website and onsite), so that all players can enjoy their times at the center. |
Q. | Is there a table tennis robot machine at the facility? |
A. | Yes. Under proper supervision, a table tennis robot is an excellent training aid for players to develop consistent stokes. The use of the robot is included in classes and camps. Private usage of the robot is available for a fee – see prices posted by the machine/table. |
Q. | I like to know more about table tennis. Do you have information about some websites I can go to learn more? |
A. | Certainly. About.com has a section on Table Tennis / Ping Pong including comprehensive resources for beginners. USATT is the national organizing body for table tennis in the United States – its website usatt.org offers wealth of information including table tennis news, memberships, sanctioned tournaments, player ratings, and more. |
